Yesterday was the beginning of a new project whose working title is ‘Stories of a Crisis’. After meeting up with Simon Sticker (author of Humans Project I’ve contributed on with my video-portrait of Francis) in Frankfurt, we flew over to Athens to meet up with Stavros Makris, a friend of Simon and also photographer. From there we took the bus West and arrived late in the evening in Agrinio. During the coming two weeks, we wish to explore personal stories of the effects of the current crisis in Greece.

Today was a great first day. We took the time to meet and discuss with a few people who would like to give us some of there time to tell us their story, their feelings and their thoughts about the crisis their country is going through. Visiting an art gallery and a school, we’ve started drafting some first ideas of storytelling. Later today, we joined a group of young Greeks attending a photography class to which we were invited and with whom we enjoyed sharing some time and tips!

Rio+20: an introduction

This animation video is brought to you by the youth-led NGO Rio+twenties. It introduces children and youth to the world of Rio+20, a sustainable development conference organised by the UN in June 2012. It is a 3 day event that will focus on two themes—the green economy and the institutional framework for sustainable development—and has only one objective—to have governments commit to sustainable development.

This video has been viewed more than 3000 times in it’s first week.

Francis

I met Francis for the first time more than ten years ago in his small village in the south of France called Bellecombe-Tarendol. Nested in the pre-alps, it is an idyllic, quiet and peaceful place. Francis, 58 years old now, has told me many stories of his youth, as he was raised among 8 brothers and sisters, struggling to make a living. With nothing more than his strong arms and his wilful mind, Francis built over the years a respectable farm producing cherries, apricots, plums, lavender and grapes. Every summer, the little streets of the village fill with young seasonal workers, who come to help at the farm. Francis has always been a hard worker, raising early in the morning and going to sleep late at night. And when he’s not out in the fields, he’s helping his two sons set up their own business.

This film is part of a broader project called HUMANS founded by Simon Sticker.

New Film : Filling Pool

Last June I bought the Lumix GH2. Times were busy and I didn’t really manage to play around with it and test it. But a month later I went for a week-end in the South of France. It was only after filming some random shots the entire afternoon that the idea of this short video came to my mind. I intentionally did not add any music because the sound plays a crucial role in intensifying the contrasts of this film.
